Part 1 of 3 Videos - Finding your way around the keyboard
Seems too good to be true I know but this is a method that I use to teach young people all the time and it’s a mystery to me why this sort of thing isn’t taught in schools as a way of getting people into playing music quickly. Check it out and let me know how you get on
Using Wii controllers to make music - a wow factor kind of way to grab kids attention and a really really fun way to get people making music by removing traditional barriers like an inability to use a keyboard or guitar - great for people with mobility restrictions and great fun for anyone.
Noise Solution - A learners view
Noise Solution has been working with Freddy for a year or so - We have just wrapped up his Silver Arts Award electronic portfolio - He has been doing a fantastic project with the aim of doing four covers, of songs from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. He wanted to learn about and experience the limitations imposed by technology on recording in those era’s.
For example in the 50’s we only had one or two mics with no editing - takes were all live and recorded straight to tape etc etc, gradually increasing the amount and types of technology all the way through to the 80’s where we introduced Midi.
It’s been a fantastic project and you can hear the songs he recorded below. The video is us trying to capture a little of what his experience has been of the organisation.
He is also a great advert for the increase in confidence that engagement with music engenders. Prior to this he’d never sung and had messed around a bit on a piano but not had any idea how to construct a chord. Using the quick method of keyboard teaching Noise Solution employs (using shapes rather than notation or scales) he was able to play all the keyboards on the following tracks, lots of it live - no overdubs, and put in some great vocal performances to boot.
well done Freddy.
here are some examples of the work achieved over the last year
This was the feedback we received from our latest Arts Award moderation
“Using blogs and online portfolio’s has been utilised to full effect here. Fantastic examples of utilising digital media as a platform for personalised evidence and real time charting of progress. The young people fully engage with their artistic practice and it is shown well through MP3 and video clips.”
Don’t need to add anything else to that really :)

Lapwing Day
Noise Solution was invited to help celebrate the achievements of Lapwing’s students in Ipswich this week. Lapwing provide alternative curriculum provision for young people in Suffolk, they may have special educational needs that mainstream education is unable to cater for. Lapwing were an early provider of referrals for Noise Solution. I came along set up some stuff with a view to talking to potential clients and discussing past work done. The reality was though that we spent the day making music lots ofother Lapwing clients gravitating toward the music and wanting to get involved in what we were doing. These guys spent 5 minutes throwing this together and I had a free hand to video.
